Central Indiana Triathlon Schedule

While you might find similar lists elsewhere, such as on TriFind, those resources often lack completeness and a personal touch. This guide, focusing on races within a 3-4 hour drive of Indianapolis, covers 33 events, excluding those near Evansville or in Illinois. Promoter-specific races are color-coded, with links to their schedules provided at the end.

Key Changes in the 2025 Season:

  • Tri Indy’s Departure: Sadly, Tri Indy, a staple of Indianapolis triathlon, has been discontinued due to rising costs and road deterioration. However, the new Fishers Triathlon fills the void, maintaining the same number of races in the Indianapolis area.
  • Go-Girl Triathlon Returns: The women’s-only Go-Girl Triathlon is back for 2025, now at a new location.
  • National Championships: Indiana and Leon’s Triathlon in Hammond will host the 2025 Military and First Responders USAT National Championship, also serving as a para-triathlon qualifier and showcase.

Showcase Races:

  • Thunder in the Valley: After a hiatus in 2024, Thunder in the Valley returns under new local ownership, maintaining its position as a historical season opener.
  • Rock the Quarry: A sprint triathlon PLUS a mile open water swim race! I’m not sure I know of any other OWS competition in Indiana
  • The Forge Gravel Triathlon: Yet another soft-surface alternative to the traditional road based triathlon. I encourage all triathletes to try some kind of soft surface race to increase their bike handling skills!

Race Director Highlights:

  • Ruble Racing: This Ft. Wayne-based promoter has expanded significantly into the Indianapolis market. They are introducing the Geist Triathlon and continuing the Mighty Mississinewa Triathlon. Notably, Zach Ruble is reviving Hollerman at Lake Lemon Conservatory, reminiscent of the MonsterMan Triathlon, and hosting the Indiana State Championship at the Muncie May triathlon.
  • Brian Holzhausen/DINO: Brian Holzhausen offers two prominent off-road triathlons: Xterra Indiana (Potato Creek Off-Road Triathlon) and a gravel triathlon at Griffin Bike Park, both organized by Do InDiana Outdoors.
  • Zoom Multisport: This Cincinnati-based group presents a four-race season featuring their unique 1/3 Iron distance. Their season ending race at Hueston Woods State Park is a venue to remember and an absolutely gorgeous place to end the season.
  • Breakaway Coaching and Training: Breakaway Coaching and Training will be present at races throughout the summer, providing a canopy and support for athletes of all levels.
